Bells for St George

Posted on February 11, 2015 by Chris Brown Posted in Private .

We received a letter from “Ringing for England” an edited version of which is reproduced below.

April 23rd is an immensely important date in England’s calendar as it is St. George’s Day and is also both the date that William Shakespeare was born and died.

The organisation “Ringing for England” is now in its 5th year and is getting the 44,000 bell ringers to ring out from 200,000 bells from 14,000 churches across the land. It is not
political and, not necessarily religious focused. It is really about anyone, of any age, who is or feels English to go out and be comfortable in celebrating the country’s Patron Saint.

Already signed up are castles, abbeys, minsters, cathedrals,
and many lovely churches. The organisation has contacted the AHGTC in the hope that Criers will join in local events celebrating the day.

For more information  visit the Ringing for England website.
